HumansThe humans of New Horizon are more versatile than ever before. On Earth they were divided into two separate groups: normal humans and those which received robotic implants. When humans reached New Horizon, a third group was added to the mix: DNA manipulated humans, mixed with the unique fauna from the new planet. These three distinct sub-species co-exist as best they can but their differences have been the cause of many wars. Humans are divided into three sub-races: Olympian Humans, Promethean Cyborgs and Medeans. WafansWaveform Androids, colloquially known as Wafans, where "created" by humans to be their slaves. In time they won their freedom and became the second species of humanity to inhabit Earth and later also the stars. Wafans are not machines like you might think, they are in fact people. Wafans are not made in factories. Wafans are "born". Not like people, but they are born nonetheless. 90% of all Wafans are born in a Wafan crèche. A Wafan is born with a fairly general set of skills and vocabulary, equivalent to a fifteen year old. He/she is raised and peered by one of his crèche mentors. All Wafans are humanoid. The three distinct sub-species all live work and even interact with one another. Each of them is tailor made for a specific lifestyle and specialization. However, each Wafan regardless of creed is a unique individual and cannot simply be labeled. Wafans are divided into three sub-races: Aesir Wafans, Vanir Wafans and Jotun Wafans. What is a Wafan? It's theoretically possible for a Robot (called Laboreadies in New Horizon) to transcend programmed limitations as an adaptive program evolves over years, or even centuries. Such a being is still technically a robot in that it is slightly more of an Asimov style being than Wall-E, but it's alive, free willed and thinking. Usually a bit quirky in an old school robotic style. The main distinction between the two is anatomical. Laboreadies are robots much like we all know them. Wafans are drastically different than a robot. They don't have a 'computer' for their consciousness, but instead use an absurdly advanced analog cybernetic organ known as a Luminous Core to process their thoughts and feelings. It's a fractal light wave processor. Each has a unique wavelength and fractal pattern which makes them more like a human being. Also, their memories are hard stored on a physical medium, an ever growing crystalline data storage device called a Lucid Codex. Wafan memories aren't files, but substance, and they are virtually impossible to copy, back up or duplicate. So in the end, the difference is that Wafans are born as people, whereas Robots are created as appliances. Put simply, Wafans just aren't robots. Not quite. MonstersThe animals of New Horizon have something like a dual system allowing them to eat both organic and non-organic materials. In the primordial stages of life, a silicone based parasite bonded with carbon based life, much in the same way mitochondria were absorbed or bonded with human ancestors. Animals on New Horizon therefore derive their immense strength and resilience by being a sort of carbon and silicone hybrid. This feature allows these creatures to eat even non-carbon based life forms, such as Wafans, and that is the reason why they are so incredibly durable. It means that most New Horizon native animals can eat both humans and Wafans, making them extremely dangerous. More than 70 different animals have been discovered on New Horizon, and more are being found every year. The New Horizon flora and fauna is unique and totally different from the one we had on Earth. Many scientists are exploring the world and discovering new species. One thing is certain, it will most likely take hundreds of years before we have successfully documented all animals on the planet since there are millions left to be found. And who knows what unique abilities we will gain through Medean splicing or what new medical breakthroughs we will make by studying newly discovered animals.
